A new age of humanity is upon the world. Humans, once the Hugely over-dominate 'race' on the planet is now becoming more equal with mutants. Mutants, once few and scarse are becoming more and more common in society.
Fights brake out, gangs are formed, and antimutant organizations are started. People such as the friends of humanity and other organizations constantly hound mutants, and campaign for anti-mutant laws.
Xavier, the long-time beacon of peace in a world where peace is not wanted, is dead. His first students- the xmen- are all that stand between the gap of war as they attempt, to the best of their ability, to give the young mutants of the xavier institute a decent education, and the proper training for the hardships to come.
Students, therefore, are treated as students- as teenagers- Many of the older aged students resent this fact, causing strife between the various teams within the school.
